History of STTI
The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International – In 1922 six nurses founded Sigma Theta Tau at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, now the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, Ind, USA. The founders chose the name from the Greek words Storgé, Tharsos and Timé meaning "love," "courage" and "honor." The honor society became incorporated in 1985 as Sigma Theta Tau International, Inc., a not-for-profit organization with a 501(c)(3) tax status in the United States.
 
Organizational Mission
The mission of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to make a difference in health worldwide.

Society Vision
The vision of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is to create a global community of nurses who lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world’s people.

History of Eta Beta Chapter of STTI

The Eta Beta Chapter of STTI was initiated in 1984 at Widener University School of Nursing. The chapter now has over 400 active members from >>> states and >>> countries.

 

How to Become a Member
Eta Beta holds its annual induction ceremony in March each year to induct members.
There are three classifications of Membership.
The classifications are:

Undergraduate Student - Junior or senior students enrolled in baccalaureate programs at accredited institutions of higher education who have completed at least 1/2 of the nursing curriculum, rank in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class and have achieved academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to at least a 3.0)

Graduate Student - Master's and Doctoral students enrolled in graduate programs at accredited institutions of higher education who have completed at least 1/4 of the nursing curriculum, have achieved academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to at least a 3.5)

Nurse Leader - Registered Nurses, legally recognized to practice in their countries, who hold at least a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other field and have demonstrated achievement in nursing.
 
Students will receive an invitation from the chapter prior to induction. Nurse leaders may be recommended by Eta Beta members or may initiate application for membership by clicking here.
